Here is what POWER is doing to grow the housing movement on a city-wide, regional and state-wide level:
• Repeal of Costa-Hawkins Act (which caps rent controlled buildings built before 1978), POWER was part of the effort to gather .5 million signatures to put the repeal on the ballot this November.
• POWER put pressure on the Mayor and City Council-members to support the repeal of Costa-Hawkins Act and a pledge to expand rent control once Costa-Hawkins is repealed.
• As an affiliate of People's Action, POWER has been integral to the adoption of the platform, 'housing as a human right,' for the national POOR PEOPLE'S CAMPAIGN which launched in Chicago.
Join us to support POWER and listen to the latest in the organizing efforts locally, city-wide, and state-wide. We'll have drinks, food, and great music!
