Marjorie and I invite you to our home for snacks, beer/wine, and great music by The SYCONS (solar powered DJs), all in support of POWER, a non profit, grass roots organization working in Venice to preserve community. Come and learn how POWER is organizing to protect our Venice neighborhoods.
POWER has:
<> been a great ally in our fight to prevent the disintegration of the cultural fabric of Venice.
<> championed the Coastal Act, to protect the unique coastal character of Venice and guarantee public access to beaches.
<> fought mass evictions by landlords aiming to illegally convert RSO housing to transient company.
POWER works alongside community and other advocacy groups to realize change on a policy level. Among their successes: Rent Registry to keep landlords honest | Securing of 100 million in new affordable housing along the coast | Reforming the Housing Authority (HACLA) and saving 6,500 units from privatization | Winning over 2 million in excessive maintenance and utility fees for LA's poorest tenants.
